Pleural fluid analysis with AFB and ADA

Description

The test evaluates pleural fluid surrounding the lungs for the presence of tuberculosis (TB) and other causes of pleural effusion. This combined analysis includes both, the detection of acid-fast bacilli (AFB) and the measurement of adenosine deaminase (ADA) levels. This test is done for patients with pleural effusion, suspected of having tuberculosis and detects tuberculous pleuritis.
