FISH FOR DEL 5Q (EGR1)

Description

FISH (Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization) for EGR1 (early growth response 1) is a laboratory test used to detect a deletion on chromosome 5q, specifically at the EGR1 gene locus. This deletion is commonly found in myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) and acute myeloid leukemia (AML). The test helps in diagnosing and monitoring these conditions, and is particularly useful when conventional cytogenetic studies are difficult to perform or inconclusive.
