D-dimer test measures fibrin degradation products in the blood, indicating possible abnormal clot formation. The test mainly checks for blood clots in the lungs, veins or other body parts. Higher levels suggest conditions like deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism or other clotting disorders as well as infections, inflammation or after-surgery effects.
