Anti-TPO antibody (Anti-Thyroid Peroxidase)

The test measures the levels of antibodies against thyroid peroxidase (TPO) – enzyme used in thyroid hormone production. This test diagnoses autoimmune thyroid disorders like Hashimoto’s thyroiditis and Graves’ disease, where the immune system mistakenly attacks the thyroid. It evaluates unexplained thyroid abnormalities, goiter or risks during pregnancy. It is ordered during symptoms like fatigue, weight changes, heat/cold intolerance, enlarged thyroid, constipation/diarrhoea, skin/hair problems etc.
