Description
Chorionic villus sampling (CVS) is a prenatal test that involves taking a small sample of placental tissue (chorionic villi) to analyze the baby’s chromosomes, a process called karyotyping. This helps identify chromosomal abnormalities like Down syndrome or other genetic disorders. CVS is typically performed earlier in pregnancy (around 10-12 weeks) than amniocentesis, allowing for earlier diagnosis.
