Description
The test examines ascitic fluid accumulating in the abdominal cavity for the presence of acid-fast bacilli (AFB) – bacteria responsible for tuberculosis. This test is performed for diagnosing tuberculous peritonitis – a type of TB affecting the lining of the abdomen (peritoneum) and diagnosing tuberculosis in patients with unexplained ascites.
